Design Thinking Workshop | COGNITIVE INK
CLIENT: HealthTech Sydney
Cognitive Ink organised over 100 volunteers including our group of GA volunteers (see image above) to work as facilitating coaches in leading small groups of 15 HealthTech Sydney members progress through a small sample of design thinking activities. As facilitators of this event we were given a script for the design activities, plus materials to workshop innovations relating to the complexities of a patient's journey in the a hospital experience.
Design Thinking Purpose
Ideate the healthcare experience in the future year 2025.
My contribution
I facilitated an assigned group (with one other) stage 4 (see diagram) of Olivia's journey - Followup care.
Each group were supplied with a range of 'coach materials'
to distribute to our participants
My group - Designing the cover story for Olivia's followup care
Coaching Process
1. Introductions + Icebreaker
2. Empathy with 'Olivia' and her journey
3. Scenario for stage 4: Followup care
4. Flip it exercise - encouraging the participants to consider that anything is possible in 2025
5. Affinity diagrams - team to organise the solutions into logical categories
5. Cover Story exercise based on the group's decision for best innovations
6. Final presentation of the 'Cover Story' for Followup care with all 6 groups
REVIEW OF Outcomes + learning insights
1. Many consistent themes were revealed about the future of healthcare eg: devices + wearables
2. Technology and 'robots' eliminating extant hospital systems and proceedures
3. I learnt that engaging in unconventional lateral thinking uninhibited people to have fun with ideas
4. Large groups of people using the design thinking' method, really works and the diversity of truly great innovations were very inspiring to me as a UX designer.
5. The only problem I discovered was the narrowing of ideas for clear decisions on the best solution amongst the group.
